Officers from the New Rochelle Police Department were dispatched to Gemelli Pizzeria shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, following reports of a fight involving several students from the high school.

Upon arrival, officers stopped a 15-year-old, who had been approached by a group of seven teenage students while inside the restaurant ordering. Police said that the group then began to assault the 15-year-old before fleeing the restaurant and running in the direction of Eastchester Road.

Police said that once the officers stopped the group suspected to be involved, they discovered that one of the students had suffered a laceration to his hand and was bleeding. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment of the wound. It is unclear how he suffered the injury.

According to police, the individuals involved, each of whom was either 16 or 17 years old, are being uncooperative, though New Rochelle Police Capt. Robert Gazzolla noted that the incident does not appear to be related to last week’s homicide.

The incident is actively being investigated by detectives. Anyone with information regarding the altercation is being asked to contact the New Rochelle Police Department by calling (914) 654-2300.
